Each fiber of cotton Gossypium hirsutum is a single epidermal cell that rapidly elongates to 2. A large number of genes are required for fiber differentiation and development, but so far, little is known about how these genes control and regulate the process of fiber development. The analyses of RNA northern-blot hybridization and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction demonstrated that GhTUB1 transcripts preferentially accumulated at high levels in fiber, at low levels in ovules at the early stage of cotton boll development, and at very low levels in other tissues of cotton. The expression of the reporter chimera was examined in a large number of transgenic cotton plants. The results suggested that the GhTUB1 gene may play a distinct and required role in fiber development. In addition, the GhTUB1 promoter may have great potential for cotton improvement by genetic engineering. Upland cotton Gossypium hirsutum and Sea Island cotton Gossypium barbadense are the most important fiber crops for the textile industry. Although classical breeding has contributed tremendously in terms of quality improvement and yield increase in the twentieth century, further improvements for fiber strength, length, chemical compatibility for dye binding, water absorption, thermal properties, and resistance to wrinkle and shrinkage are needed for textile and other industrial applications. The potential for improving these properties through classical breeding is limited because of requirements of species compatibility and available traits.
Metrics details. Among CESA-like gene superfamily, the cellulose synthase-like D CSLD genes are most similar to cellulose synthase genes and have been reported to be involved in tip-growing cell and stem development. However, there has been no genome-wide characterization of this gene subfamily in cotton. We thus sought to analyze the evolution and functional characterization of CSLD proteins in cotton based on fully sequenced cotton genomes. These results suggest that CSLD genes showed the different pattern of expression.
He is best known for his four Billboard top 40 entries during the years — In the UK, he is most famous for the song "Me and the Elephant" which failed to make the top 40 best sellers, but was an airplay hit. Cotton has been a resident of Leiper's Fork , Tennessee since the late s. KOS brings in Nashville artists to run summer classes that open the doors to the arts to kids who might otherwise never see greatness or think about greatness in their arts. Most notably, Grammy Award winner Michael McDonald has performed numerous times to bring awareness and raise donations for this program under Cotton's leadership , besides producing independent films about the plight of the poor around the world. Cotton was instrumental in s pop singer Michael Johnson 's career. Casada won 3, votes to Cotton's 1, in a special election in which only 13 percent of registered voters cast ballots. Both Casada and Cotton campaigned on strong opposition to proposals for a state income tax. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
